BECoop

Knowledge Hub

Becoop is a Horizon 2020-funded project that aims to put communities in charge of their energy generation, in order to create a fair and people-powered energy system. Bioenergy is a big component of the project, as it is an innovative and not yet exploited to its full potential energy source. The project wants to fight climate change, create jobs, mitigate energy poverty, lower supply tariffs, reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions, ensure energy supply security and flexible energy systems.

Relation to DECIDE

The project sees energy communities and cooperatives (RESCoops) as the ideal framework; "they can empower a more effective, fair, and democratised clean-energy transition, leading to an increased social and consumer acceptance of RE developments".

COME RES

H2020 Project

COME RES - Community Energy for the uptake of renewables in the electricity sector. Connecting long-term visions with short-term actions – is a project under the EU’s Horizon2020 programme, aimed at facilitating the market uptake of renewable energy sources (RES) in the electricity sector. Specifically, the project focusses on advancing renewable energy communities (RECs) as per the EU’s recast Renewable Energy Directive. COME RES takes a multi- and transdisciplinary approach to support the development of RECs in nine European countries; Belgium, Germany, Italy Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

Relation to DECIDE

COME RES directly works on and with Renewable Energy Communities in nine european Countries. The project explores the barriers and drivers for RECs in close exchange with local stakeholders. Good practices will be identified and transfered to to other regions taking local, regional and national specific contexts into account.

EC² - Energy Citizenship and Energy Communities for a Clean-Energy Transition

H2020 Project

Gathering insights from the fields of law, economics and psychology, EC² will provide answers on how to facilitate and strengthen energy citizenship. Knowledge co-creation with municipalities, energy communities and citizens will enhance the research to deliver recommendations that support the EU’s energy and decarbonisation goals.

The project will develop a clear conceptualisation of energy citizenship, and gather actionable insights into the optimal conditions for it to flourish. It places a special focus on the role of energy communities and how their set-up can help - or hinder - the creation of energy citizens.

The insights gained will lead to policies, tools and practices that will support the sustainable, just, inclusive transition to a low-carbon society with citizens at the centre.

Relation to DECIDE

EC2 sees energy communities as the key tool to promote energy citizenship, the engagement and empowerment of people in the energy sector. The project explores the relationship between energy citizenship and energy community membership, and it seeks to strenghten the inclusivity of energy communities.

Score Project

H2020 Project

SCORE is a project aiming to facilitate the co-ownership of renewable energy for consumers. Its work extends in three pilot regions in Europe (in Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland) and later in various European cities. The project highlights the potential that democratic participation models hold in the fight against energy poverty for the inclusion of women and low-income households, where these under-represented groups participate as prosumers through financial empowerment rather than through social protection.

Relation to DECIDE

SCORE is formulating policy recommendations at the EU and national level to promote prosumership, with a particular focus on the inclusion of women and low-income households and the removal of barriers for consumers to become active market players. The project does that by carrying out extensive research on Energy Communities and Collective Actions.

Spoldzielnia Nasza Energia

Cooperative

Spoldzielnia Nasza Energia is the only energy cooperative so far in Poland. It was set up to tackle the problem of energy security by tapping into the potential of a network of agricultural biogas plants. The cooperative is a joint project by Bio Power Sp., Elektromontaz Lublin and four municipalities: Sitno, Skierbieszow, Komarow-Osada, Labunie. It is a private-local government initiative created in response to high electricity prices by system enterprises. Their task is to supply electricity and, if possible, heat and energy of public buildings as well as households.

Relation to DECIDE

They aim at ensuring energy independency and creating local, autonomous grids of biogas plants. They want to locally produce energy locally by using the agricultural potential and tackle the regional problem of energy provision and prices and the lack of investment in the region.

WinWind

H2020 Project

The H2020 project WinWind aims to increase the socially inclusive and environment-friendly market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in regions where wind energy is scarce.

WinWind

H2020 Project

The H2020 project WinWind aims to increase the socially inclusive and environment-friendly market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in regions where wind energy is scarce.

Relation to DECIDE

The project provides a clear handbook on how social acceptance of wind energy can be increased, as well as an online tool. Both are highly useful to energy communities working with Wind Energy and were  developed considering and involving energy communities.
