BECoop

Knowledge Hub

Becoop is a Horizon 2020-funded project that aims to put communities in charge of their energy generation, in order to create a fair and people-powered energy system. Bioenergy is a big component of the project, as it is an innovative and not yet exploited to its full potential energy source. The project wants to fight climate change, create jobs, mitigate energy poverty, lower supply tariffs, reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions, ensure energy supply security and flexible energy systems.

Relation to DECIDE

The project sees energy communities and cooperatives (RESCoops) as the ideal framework; "they can empower a more effective, fair, and democratised clean-energy transition, leading to an increased social and consumer acceptance of RE developments".

COME RES

H2020 Project

COME RES - Community Energy for the uptake of renewables in the electricity sector. Connecting long-term visions with short-term actions – is a project under the EU’s Horizon2020 programme, aimed at facilitating the market uptake of renewable energy sources (RES) in the electricity sector. Specifically, the project focusses on advancing renewable energy communities (RECs) as per the EU’s recast Renewable Energy Directive. COME RES takes a multi- and transdisciplinary approach to support the development of RECs in nine European countries; Belgium, Germany, Italy Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

Relation to DECIDE

COME RES directly works on and with Renewable Energy Communities in nine european Countries. The project explores the barriers and drivers for RECs in close exchange with local stakeholders. Good practices will be identified and transfered to to other regions taking local, regional and national specific contexts into account.

EC² - Energy Citizenship and Energy Communities for a Clean-Energy Transition

H2020 Project

Gathering insights from the fields of law, economics and psychology, EC² will provide answers on how to facilitate and strengthen energy citizenship. Knowledge co-creation with municipalities, energy communities and citizens will enhance the research to deliver recommendations that support the EU’s energy and decarbonisation goals.

The project will develop a clear conceptualisation of energy citizenship, and gather actionable insights into the optimal conditions for it to flourish. It places a special focus on the role of energy communities and how their set-up can help - or hinder - the creation of energy citizens.

The insights gained will lead to policies, tools and practices that will support the sustainable, just, inclusive transition to a low-carbon society with citizens at the centre.

Relation to DECIDE

EC2 sees energy communities as the key tool to promote energy citizenship, the engagement and empowerment of people in the energy sector. The project explores the relationship between energy citizenship and energy community membership, and it seeks to strenghten the inclusivity of energy communities.

MUSE GRIDS

H2020 Project

MUSE GRIDS is a project that aims to demonstrate the concept of a “smart energy system” by putting together a set of technological and non-technological solutions targeting the interaction of local energy grids (electricity grids, district heating and cooling networks, water networks, gas grids, electromobility etc.) in order to enable maximisation of local energy independency. It does that by optimising the management of the production via end user-driven control strategies, smart grid functionality, storage and CHP and RES integration.

Relation to DECIDE

MUSE Grids will implement two large-scale pilot projects in in a European urban area (OSIMO) and a European rural area (OUD HEVERLEE), both with a weak connection with the national energy grid and energy markets. By doing this, they will demonstrate how to interconnect local energy grids; how to utilise synergies in the energy system to maximise efficiency, reduce costs, CO2 emissions and energy losses; and how to reach affordable energy independency mainly maximising local self-consumption based on RES.

Renaissance

H2020 Project

Renaissance project is an Innovation Action (IA) which aim is to deliver a community-driven scalable and replicable approach, to implement new business models and technologies supporting clean production and shared distribution of energy in local communities.

In the first phase the Consortium will collect data to identify stable and equitable business cases in four Local Energy Communities (LEC) across Europe, thank to MAMCA analysis.

The resulting scenarios will support the co-design of the ReEnergise tool, which will help identifying the optimal configuration for an integrated and decarbonised Local Energy Systems (LES). The tool will be tested in each Pilot Site and followed by a financial viability assessment.

Thereafter an innovative platform for integrated management and value delivery across all actors will be implemented and interoperability realised.

As a consequence, the energy communities of prosumers at demonstrator sites will be fully connected and the use of RES will likely increase beyond 27% .

In the last phase, the RENAISSANCE approach will be simulated under market conditions connecting 10 sites across the globe, to demonstrate its scalability and replicability.

WinWind

H2020 Project

The H2020 project WinWind aims to increase the socially inclusive and environment-friendly market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in regions where wind energy is scarce.

WinWind

H2020 Project

The H2020 project WinWind aims to increase the socially inclusive and environment-friendly market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in regions where wind energy is scarce.

Relation to DECIDE

The project provides a clear handbook on how social acceptance of wind energy can be increased, as well as an online tool. Both are highly useful to energy communities working with Wind Energy and were  developed considering and involving energy communities.
