The Energy Community Platform is a one-stop solution for everything about community energy.
This website has received funding from the EU's Interreg NWE ECCO project, EU's Horizon 2022 Compile project, EU's Horizon 2020 COME RES project, and Tides Foundation’s Patagonia Communications project.
What can be found on the platform?
- Tools and resources. A broad collection of resources and tools in one place to help you develop your community energy project at any development stage.
- Maturity test. This unique feature of the Energy Community Platform allows energy communities to self-assess their development stage. After answering 21 questions, they receive a result and some indications to assess their strengths and weaknesses and help them move forward. The test also allows the Energy Community Platform to offer resources tailored to each development stage. This test is based on research work carried out by the Compile project.
- Community energy map. This map features energy communities across Europe to inspire others and facilitate exchange and collaborations between energy communities across borders.
- Experts network. Our experts network can offer professional support to energy communities that have not been able to move forward by themselves or need additional support.

Energy Cooperatives Ireland is a co-operative working on renewable energy consultancy and promoting community access to the benefits of renewable energy. Its membership ranges between renewable energy experts, experienced co-operative regulations advisers, an expert project managers, financial advisers and a highly skilled communications and media team. Energy Co-operatives Ireland has an open democratic structure. It supports co-operatives that have as wide a community membership as possible and seek to distribute benefits to the community as a whole. It has been successful in assisting community co-ops at every stage of their development, from their first public meeting to the successful processing of a planning application and their sourcing of finances.

EU Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy
The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Europe was lunched in 2008 and currently brings together thousands of local governments committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives and to achieve European targets in the three main pillars of action: adaptation, mitigation and energy poverty. The initiative now gathers 9,000+ local and regional authorities across 57 countries, drawing on the strengths of a worldwide multi-stakeholder movement and the technical and methodological support offered by dedicated offices.

The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Europe focusses on Energy Communities and Collective Actions in its second and third pillar, which are mitigation and energy poverty. The target audience for projects and initiatives started in this framework are local authorities that can be both promoters and facilitators of Renewable Energy Communities and Collective Actions that might be interested in leveraging local initiatives in order to reach their climate goals.

EWS Elektrizitätswerke Schönau eG is a multi-utility cooperative. In the late 1990s it was the first of its kind in Germany to take over the grid as well as electricity supply to the local community. When the electricity markets were deregulated in 1998, it started to sell almost exclusively renewable energy to its local electricity customers. The year after, EWS began to supply customers with green electricity on a nationwide scale. Nowadays, its activities also include the supply of natural gas and biogas.
