WinWind

H2020 Project

The H2020 project WinWind aims to increase the socially inclusive and environment-friendly market uptake of wind energy by increasing its social acceptance in regions where wind energy is scarce.

Relation to DECIDE

Smart Cities Marketplace

Knowledge Platform

The Smart Cities Marketplace is a platform which was created by merging the former Marketplace of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) and the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS). It is a major market-changing undertaking supported by the European Commission bringing together cities, industries, SMEs, investors, researchers and other smart city actors.

Relation to DECIDE

The Smart Cities Marketplace has thousands of followers from all over Europe (and beyond), many of which have signed up as a member. Their common aims are to improve citizens’ quality of life, increase the competitiveness of European cities and industry as well as to reach European energy and climate targets. They work with three pillars of action: Explore, Shape and Deal. Explore the possibilities, shape your project ideas, and close a deal for launching Smart City solutions.

Magliano Alpi

Renewable Energy Community

Magliano Alpi is a Renewable Energy Community (CER) born in Piedmont at the end of 2020 aiming at creating a new development model based on the production and the sustainable use of energy. Its goal is to revitalise and bring bak value to the territory after the COVID-19 pandemic by retrofit buildings and Energy Communities.

Relation to DECIDE

Magliano Alpi can be a good role model for DECIDE pilots and replicants to learn from an already established Energy Community, especially on regulatory issues.

Cooperative

EWS Elektrizitätswerke Schönau eG is a multi-utility cooperative. In the late 1990s it was the first of its kind in Germany to take over the grid as well as electricity supply to the local community. When the electricity markets were deregulated in 1998, it started to sell almost exclusively renewable energy to its local electricity customers. The year after, EWS began to supply customers with green electricity on a nationwide scale. Nowadays, its activities also include the supply of natural gas and biogas.

EU Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy

Network

The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Europe was lunched in 2008 and currently brings together thousands of local governments committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives and to achieve European targets in the three main pillars of action: adaptation, mitigation and energy poverty. The initiative now gathers 9,000+ local and regional authorities across 57 countries, drawing on the strengths of a worldwide multi-stakeholder movement and the technical and methodological support offered by dedicated offices.

Relation to DECIDE

The Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Europe focusses on Energy Communities and Collective Actions in its second and third pillar, which are mitigation and energy poverty. The target audience for projects and initiatives started in this framework are local authorities that can be both promoters and facilitators of Renewable Energy Communities and Collective Actions that might be interested in leveraging local initiatives in order to reach their climate goals.

ènostra

Cooperative

ènostra is a non-profit cooperative electricity source that provides its members with renewable energy generated by solar, wind and hydroelectric plants with guarantee of origin. ènostra is a community enterprise, which means it is involved in projects and activities that not only impact its members, but benefit the community as a whole by increasing the share of energy produced through renewable sources in Italy’s national energy mix. It does that through programmes involving energy efficiency, implementation of photovoltaic systems and monitoring of consumption reduction.

Relation to DECIDE

All of ènostra’s energy production plants, be it photovoltaic, wind-powered or hydroelectric, involve the citizens through their direct participation.

EC² - Energy Citizenship and Energy Communities for a Clean-Energy Transition

H2020 Project

Gathering insights from the fields of law, economics and psychology, EC² will provide answers on how to facilitate and strengthen energy citizenship. Knowledge co-creation with municipalities, energy communities and citizens will enhance the research to deliver recommendations that support the EU’s energy and decarbonisation goals.

The project will develop a clear conceptualisation of energy citizenship, and gather actionable insights into the optimal conditions for it to flourish. It places a special focus on the role of energy communities and how their set-up can help - or hinder - the creation of energy citizens.

The insights gained will lead to policies, tools and practices that will support the sustainable, just, inclusive transition to a low-carbon society with citizens at the centre.

Relation to DECIDE

EC2 sees energy communities as the key tool to promote energy citizenship, the engagement and empowerment of people in the energy sector. The project explores the relationship between energy citizenship and energy community membership, and it seeks to strenghten the inclusivity of energy communities.
